Before the invention of the camera, portraits have been used historically to give a depiction of person. I am interested on how some of the great masters of portraiture have used facial expressions, light source and color to create their portraits. My media of choice is pastels for portraits, it is fascinating to layer color like browns, blues and grays but the outcome will still be a color that is a natural skin tone however true to the individual. You can create a portrait of the same person several times and the end result will be different because of the mood of the person and the ambiance of their environment. Many of my portraits are of my family and friends, the people who are closest to me.
